Thank You For The Response

There was a good response during the 5 days the book "Bible Prophecy - God's Agenda and Your Part In It" was available free on Amazon. Books downloaded all over the plane; besides the USA, some went to the UK, Germany and India etc. I couldn't be more pleased. ABD writers don't write to get anything other than a sense of being of some help to some one. So I can legitimately say thank you to those who read ABD articles or take a free e-book. When my wife first started this blog, I had never intended to write anything for public consumption, but she asked me to help her and I couldn't say no. There are readers from every continent, and not too infrequently from non-Christian nations.

With what is now occurring in Israel, it is time for people everywhere to make themselves aware of where we are in prophecy, as well as get right with God by joining in with Christ in the New Covenant. No we can't know when the hour of Christ's return is, but we can know the season. It's interesting how the person who reviewed my book got the idea that I set dates. I appreciated the review, but I stated clearly that various future schedules are speculative. I'd just like to make that point clear. It's the setting of dates (and other such nonsense) that precipitated the creation of ABD in the first place. We are surely in the season, but the purveyor  alarm fatigue have been very successful in dulling receptivity to prophecy. My hope is that we all resist this and do similarly to what the Jewish people did for so many centuries and say: "next year with Christ Jesus in his kingdom."

Bible Prophecy – God's Agenda and Your Part in It – is again free

My book "Bible Prophecy – God's Agenda and Your Part in It" is currently free on Amazon for five days, from July 9, 2014 to July 13, 2014.

This book began as an article on ABD but kept getting bigger to where it made more sense to put it on Amazon as a unit. This meant I couldn't use my pen name, in case the "Glen Paul Erickson" instead of 'Luc" on the cover pic is confusing.

2Tim 4:8 says: "Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day--and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing." This makes it clear that we aren't to forget about the coming of Christ as is so often the case.

The Jewish people ended their Passover Seder (and said among themselves at other occasions) “next year in Jerusalem.” This was a hope built on a promise. And though it seemed like it would never happen, it did. The Jewish nation was reborn, however impossible the world said it was. Interestingly, they never let the hope interfere with their normal activities and responsibilities. Those who believe in Jesus as Lord and messiah have a similar promise: Luk 21:28 “When these things” (Jesus had been describing) “begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near."  Christians, to the largest extent, seem not to consider this important. Not that I blame them. I told my wife's eldest daughter about what my book was about and she said that she and her family were no longer interested in such things. She was kept informed about the whole Ron Weinland charade of prophet-hood and was told to expect the Lord with urgent appeals for her recognition of the man as legitimate. Now she doesn't want to hear such “nonsense.”

I wrote an article at the time to make the point that such deception, as Weinland was trying to lure people into, had just the above described effect. I compared it to the dropping of loads of aluminum foil by the allies during WW2 to confuse German radar. The Christian's radars have indeed been confused. The season has arrived for the bride to gather her maidens and become vigilant for the arrival of the bridegroom. The deceivers have won a victory. Many like Ron Weinland have won a victory for the enemy, rather intended or not. Some no longer say: next year with Christ, and a relative few appear interested in prophecy. It has, to so large an extent, become the sphere of the mentally ill and paranoid; at least this is how popular media presents people who pursue such interests.

I never bought what Ron Weinland was selling because of having studied and pondered the prophetic writings for 40 years. Because I didn't arrive at my eschatological conclusions based on any accepted line of reasoning, most of which have been highly influenced by the paradigm of the reformation period which sought to demonize the Catholic Church.  I do see things differently. For example: I see the prophecy of twenty-three hundred evenings and mornings as specifying the exact date of the Jewish regaining of the Temple mount in 1967 because the word translated 'reconsicrated' in Dan 8:14  merely means to make something right; (He said to me, "It will take 2,300 evenings and mornings; then the sanctuary will be reconsecrated."). The word translated 'reconsecrated' is H6663  tsadaq  tsaw-dak'a primitive root; to be (causatively, make) right (in a moral or forensic sense). The word sanctuary actually means holy place: H6944  qodesh  ko'-desh from H6942; sacred place or thing; rarely abstract, sanctity. Out of 168 times the word is used in scripture, it only refers to the “sanctuary' 4 times; 98 time it simply means “holiness,”

The timeline of 2,300 evenings and mornings begins in 333 BC when Alexander the Great defeated the Persians, and if the symbolic increment of time is intended to mean years, all we have to do to test this is to do some addition and see if the results are biblically significant. So add 1967 to 333 (1967 + 333 = 1967), and the result is the year the Jews regained the Holy Mount. Something was made right at the holy place, but not completely. The book I offer has this and numerous other observations with more background and detail to make the case. The book ends with a look at the Jewish marriage customs as they relate to the words of Jesus and the resurrected body, which is the “Your Part in It” aspect the books title refers to.

Amazon won’t allow me to make the book free with the exception of a few days every 90 days, but I set the price at the lowest possible. I extend my thanks to those who purchased the book as that paid Amazon for their services. Graphics from the book don’t show up well on small screens so have been posted here http://bp-ga.blogspot.com/

Remember the words of Paul 2Ti 4:8 “Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day--and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.”

Victims Of Alarm Fatigue?

Just a reminder. The book, which began here on ABD as an article, is available today (Saturday 3-1-14)  through Wednesday the 5th for FREE on Amazon in the Kindle format. I earnestly desire that we should not be dulled by alarm-fatigue, for this is what the enemy wants. Yes, prophecy is for stimulating belief, but also for encouraging one another—" and all the more as you see the Day approaching" -Hebrews 10:25. Apathy has hit the church and we need to resist it. False prophets have made the idea of Jesus' soon return seem tiresome. I want people to see the possibility that all the prophecies proceeding the return have in fact been fulfilled. Brothers and sisters in all nations; are you more focused on the things of the world, or are you one who has put your hand to the Gospel plow and will not turn and look back? We can focus on the past of being in a COG and their emphases on the return of Jesus and be repelled by this mind set or do as Paul advised, "Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead," Phil 3:13.

Don't you see that this is an effective method that Satan has employed? Everything you learned wasn't a lie. There was some truth which the devil may convince you to throw out with the proverbial bathwater. Our job is to filter out the poison and keep what remains. If we now make our temporal existence the most important thing and not Jesus, He says we are not worthy of Him. God's time piece is Israel. My nation (USA) has a government that continues to stab Israel in the back. This is prophecy being fulfilled as there will be no one to stand with Israel! The way is being prepared for the final battle. You who make Jesus the first priority have a date with destiny. We can't know the day or hour, but we are told that we can know the season. And if we aren't dissuaded by the false alarms sounded by the enemy to dull our senses then we will be like the virgins who kept their lamps full and waited for the bridegrooms arrival. Be awake; be alert;  believe Him first and foremost and be the ones who cross over from death to life. Let us focus our eyes on Jesus and not on some man or on distractions. There is no one that stands between you and God but Jesus Himself. Again, the link to the book is Bible Prophecy - God's Agenda And Your Part In It

Bible Prophecy - God's Agenda And Your Part In It

I was the second writer on ABD coming on board not long after its April of 2008 beginning. Seeker had made 18 posts before I contributed a two part debunking of Armstrongs United States and Britain in Prophecy the following May. To get traction we tried to post every other day, and it was quite a grind. Later xHWA joined us and took up more than his share of the load, for which we were thankful. Now, we have other great writers which bless us with their thoughtful work; and so it continues.
When we started ABD we all used pseudonyms instead of our real names largely to protect our family members who were still in Armstrongist splinter groups (among other reasons). I chose Luc as mine. ABD became so popular in its niche that if I Googled Lucian Roske, it would pop up instantly. If I Googled my real name I wouldn't have anything. I did an article series on prophecy sometime later in 2008 in which I outlined conclusions to my own  studies. I didn't portray them as anything other than my own view back then, and I won't now. I say this because  I used those posts as the core of what became a book. Because of this I removed the posts. My main objective was, and is, to stimulate thought outside prescripted views, and to let the Bible speak for its self. Since what became the book appeared in its incipient form on ABD, I thought it appropriate to make known here its availability in the Kindle format. Naturally my real name is on the cover pic. So in some ways, this is an introduction. When I'm not Luc, I am Glen Paul Erickson.

When I read books, I like them in either paper or in the Kindle format. So I put the book on Amazon and gave it the minimum price. I would have made the book free if Amazon allowed it. It can be done, but it takes time. Amazon does allow a book to be free five days out of ninety. My book is scheduled to be free on Saturday March 1, 2014 to Wednesday March 5, 2014. The God’s Law Controversy

The controversy began immediately in the 1st century and has continued. What is the eternal God's law? Is it that which came down from Sinai through Moses or is it something else that came through Jesus apart from the former law. This divide has been a central issue facing the believers in Jesus, and remains so. It goes back and forth with passion and often recrimination. One side argues: “the law of God is found in the New Testament” the other says “The law of God is that which is found in the book of Exodus and it is incumbent upon us all to submit to this law to be right with God.” This is the argument that is made in the Koran. The Muslims believe that they are keeping the law once delivered by Moses in it's uncorrupted wholeness. This divide is the central issue that is currently drawing the planet ever nearer to the brink of self inhalation because Islam has commanded that all other belief systems be eradicated and all unbelievers in the authority of Mohammad be placed under the dominion of Islamic masters by any means.

Not long ago an ABD comment pointed out that "the law of God will be written on the hearts of believers, so the law of of the Old Covenant was still in affect," end of story. No further investigation would be tolerated. No questioning if the law that was to be written on the heart was a law that God himself would keep. Since God alone is eternal both forwards and backwards, an eternal law would need to be pertinent both forwards and backwards or it would hardly be eternal.

The Decalogue (Ten commandments) is oriented to the human spiritual condition, to a nature that is drawn to evil. How could such a law have existed when God, who is love, was all their was? God's way is love, so then must be his law, and isn't it logical to conclude that this is the higher law? Ideally, this is the law I'd want written on my heart. What wonderful thing can I imagine that God cannot do? Can I imagine an ideal that could top what God has imagined? Not at all. I can imagine a better law written in one's heart than one of 'thou shall nots'. How can anyone believe God would settle for "thou shalt not" being written on one's heart instead of "I want to love"? When God writes on the heart, he is writing the code for the operating system of the mind, and there will be no need for a "thou shall not." I have frequently commented that there is no law against jumping out of an airplane without a parachute as only an insane person would have such an impulse. There is no need for a law against something that is contrary to the nature of human beings, and normally self preservation is very pronounced in that nature, that is, in the operating system of the mind.

Jesus said that 'love toward God and Love toward man' is the basic principles upon which the Law and the prophets were based. This too is said to prove the contention that the law of the Old Covenant is the Eternal law of God; but no real change was produced in the keepers of the law except in a few through God's spirit. it wasn't a result of the law itself.

The heart is in need of a re-creation. The first 10 books of the bible demonstrates that this external law is no final solution for a deficiency that can not be filled from the resources of a human being. I frequently divide law into internal and external varieties. An internal law is one that we follow because it is part of our being as apposed to an external law that has rules that contradict our internal law. We find ourselves struggling with those arias where our hearts have the greatest conflict with the external laws requirements.

The OC law does point to this more fundamental law which is love. The question is how? "The ten Commandments teaches us how to love" goes the rationalization. This statement sounds logical but it is twisting reality to conform to the preconception of the the Decalogue's eternal significance. In other word it is just a rationalization. In reality there is no example of anyone learning to love through a list of things that must be performed. The bible simply doesn't state that this is the case. In fact, the Old Testament’s lessons distilled down to their most potent concentration screams the fact that an external prescription of do's and don’ts does nothing to change the heart. This is the lesson of the entire history of Israel. What the law does is provide a line in the sand, that is, a point of reference so that sin can be identified and the resulting penalties demonstrate a little of what is truly deserved by the sinner; and the penalty was taken for all sinners by Jesus on the cross. This is the love that the law points to. Without the law there would be no means of comprehending the over arching love of our creator.

The results God desires is encoded in law, yet as already pointed out, this goal was not achieved and clearly not achievable via the enforcement of the OC (Old Covenant) law. Mat 22:37 Jesus replied: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' V38 This is the first and greatest commandment. V39 And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' V40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments." The goal God set for these qualities to become a part of human character was not achievable until they could be written in the very nature of man. You might say, in the operating system of man. How can God accomplish this? Through the New Covenant? By adding something unavailable to the people of the old: Col 1:27 “To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.” Christ, like the prize vine of a wine maker is the rootstock of the entire vineyard. Gal 4:19 “My dear children, for whom I am again in the pains of childbirth until Christ is formed in you,”

When the very nature of the human being is changed there is no longer a need for a law to curb tendencies that don't exist. The law was made to control the evil nature of man; 1Ti 1:9 “Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,”

God knew from the beginning that Israel would fail and yet proceeded with the demand of obedience upon them until they fulfilled the course he had predicted, that being their failure. Deuteronomy 31:16-17 (NIV) 16 "And the LORD said to Moses: “You are going to rest with your ancestors, and these people will soon prostitute themselves to the foreign gods of the land they are entering. They will forsake me and break the covenant I made with them. 17 And in that day I will become angry with them and forsake them; I will hide my face from them, and they will be destroyed. Many disasters and calamities will come on them, and in that day they will ask, ‘Have not these disasters come on us because our God is not with us?’"

Stated differently; why would God put in motion the epic national journey of Israel through rebellions and it's contrite repentance that repeated over and over until they were cast out of their land when he knew this was to be the outcome? Either God enjoys watching human suffering or God was making a demonstration as to the futility of this external law. The Ten Commandments is an external law that was put in place as a remedy for a problem, as a means of controlling a nature that has desires to do the things that the law prohibits. It did not change the heart nor did it succeed in bringing peace and order except when it was remembered. How much easier would it be to remember something that is not foreign to one's makeup?

A little side note I'd like to add here is how the above verse reflects on peoples view of God when they say things like:"I'm afraid I'll make God angry with me." the Universe makes the earth look like a microscopic dust particle, and God is far bigger. The idea that something that is like a microbe (man) on a particle of dust that is relatively microscopic is an absurdity. God chose to become angry in advance to fulfill the requirements of his demonstration Deut 31:17 “And in that day I will become angry with them.”

The apostle Paul pointed out some of the behaviors that the nature of man is predisposed to that the Old Testament law was designed to control. Galatians 5:19-26 (NIV) “The acts of the flesh (often translated sinful nature) are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.”

Paul then relates the predispositions of an entirely different nature.
“22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.”

Paul juxtaposes these two groups that might represent two pathways to correct behavior. With the first group a control mechanism is required and the second one is not. These are our two choices. When Jesus returns, according to Zech 14:16, those who attack Jerusalem are placed under the Old Testament law. Paul said in Romans 3:31"we uphold the law". Why would he discount one of the means to assure correct behavior when there are those who have not accepted option two. This can be simplified to: there is no vacuum in law, either you will be controlled by an external law or you will be self controlled by the inner law of God's love. 'Written on your heart' is clearly an idiomatic phrase meaning the core of one's being. This phrase is indicative of a new nature. Using the computer as a metaphor we might say that God has replaced the operating system.

These two groups, one of negatives and one of positives represent two possible paths to correct behavior. Focus on the evil and demand that it not be done, or focus on the good and let it crowd out the evil, for bitter water and sweet cannot come from the same source.James 3:11 (NIV) “Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring?”
Romans 8:5 (NIV) 5 “Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.”
Romans 11:32 (NIV)32 "For God has bound everyone over to disobedience so that he may have mercy on them all. Whatever things are good and noble, think on these things." This is where I want to put my attention. It's one thing to point out what is wrong, but it must at least be balanced out by what is good and right or it poisons the soul. God has given us a weak nature to demonstrate a point. The sentence:”For God has bound” makes this clear. It is incorrect to presume that an eternal law of do this and don't do that is necessary to deal with an eternal weakness in the nature of a sentient being.

Romans 12:1 “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” The renewing of your mind can only be the new nature growing crowding out the old as water displaces the air in a vessel. It may not happen all at once, but eventually the gas is removed. A gas is what leavening produces to puff up bread which symbolizes vanity, so I like the metaphor of the gas being replaced by the water since water is a metaphor for the Holy Spirit of the Almighty.

It's often pointed out that this earthly creation is so imperfect that it demonstrates that a holy and perfect creator is a myth. This short sighted thinking is similar to that of one who criticizes a building while its scaffolding is still covering its walls and bulldozers and cement trucks are crowding its grounds. God is creating through education and by providing experience instead of just downloading information. Layer by layer the pearl of great price is formed, and that pearl that the Lord sold all he possessed to purchase is you.

A treasure is rare and is formed with difficulty or it acquires no value; And so our lives are not easy and filled with heartache, but God is forging his treasure. The weak nature leading to our experience with sin is a temporary scaffolding needed during construction. This scaffolding seems like a part of natural reality to us, but it isn’t; and to form our perspective of eternity based on presumptions gleaned from our temporal reality will only result in the grievous error of clinging to the scaffolding God must remove to reveal his finished work.

It may not always make sense to us how God works, but we can interfere with our shortsighted presumptions. We need to trust totally. If there is beauty, it is from the mind of God; if there is goodness, it is from the mind of God. This is what faith is; knowing that God is good, that his will is better than we can imagine, that his desire is for better results than we could conceive of. Here's a truth you can tell yourself: “God already knows what I need and his will for me is better than my own.”

How much better to give thanks for a work God sees as completed than to limit God by focusing on trying to fix the building we have no power to build, or for that matter, telling God what we think is wrong and what we think should be done about it, which is to presume that Gods will needs our assistance. I can state what I see as wrong, but faith says that I should seek his solution because his solution will always make mine look like road kill. In all ways God is beautiful, his will is refreshing like white water of the mountain headwaters, rumbling and tumbling over boulders glistening in the bright sunshine of summer. Every trouble is dwarfed by the majesty of his works and the fruition of his desires, that which we commonly call his will. What can I possibly add to it.

Dealing with Stress? Choose Peace of Mind.

It is considered as fact that a large percentage of disease is the direct result of stress. Add to stress, nutritional deficiency and lack of exercise, and disease is pretty much a certainty. Health starts in the mind, but the condition of our minds are so often out of our control. Before, or at least concurrently with changing to a healthy diet and starting an exercise program, ways, means and techniques for relief of stress, need to be taken into serious consideration.
While listening to a session of people talk about their past weeks emotional difficulties, I observed that most of it had to do with conflicting with other people. It seemed to me that most of the conflicts were entirely unnecessary expressions of pridefulness; people taking offense at real or presumed derogation of self and their response after shifting into “I take no crap from anyone” mode, or “you hurt me and you had no right to do that” mode. Standing up for one's rights so as not to be a doormat is not necessarily unhealthy, but how many conflicts are such that turning the other cheek would result in any real loss. The conflict unsuccessfully avoided will certainly result in a tangible loss when the accumulated affect results in disease, or loss of interest in doing anything worthwhile.
Because of the time lag, cognizance of the direct relationship between cause and effect is frequently muddled and perhaps simply unrecognized. The old saying that “sticks and stones may break my bones but words can never hurt me” is most certainly untrue. The question is, can we learn to not allow words to hurt us.
We can't control the words others may hurl at us, but when we allow the negativity of other peoples language to make us upset and angry, we have been controlled. How does that defend out rights or dignity? This can only be considered a successful theft of our peace of mind. In these cases, putting more value on someone's negative opinion than our own internal peace allows the thief entry into our inner mental sanctuary.
Is it possible to smile and simply refuse to participate in a conflict? Not always, but learning to stay in charge of our emotions by staying focused on the greater value of our internal peace will always be the better alternative. When the angry and upset emotions get the upper hand, it's time to clear the mind, break the narrow focus on the cause of the disturbance as you would move a magnifying glass in the sun away from that that smoking point of intense heat to where the light is diffused allowing cooling to take place. Like the magnifying glass, move your awareness out to diffuse into the world and the universe so as to regain perspective. One persons opinion at some given moment fades into insignificance when we have achieved that broader awareness.
What else can we do? How about making use of forgiveness for others so that they loose power over you. People who want to see themselves as tough and as persons who refuse to be walked over frequently see being forgiving as a weakness. The truth is that the very opposite is true. This may not be so easy, meaning that strength is required to go against one's emotions, how can this be considered weakness?
This one may be even harder. How about forgiving your self so you neutralize your own emotional autoimmune activity? That is to say that you quit killing yourself for something that you can't do anything about. You can't change the past, so maintaining self condemnation is self destruction, and just a slow form of suicide.
All the forms and sources of stress are so varied and often complex that it's a given that there is no magic bullet; but keeping a cool head and finding others with cool heads for support and aid in thinking through problems is always a good plan.
If all preventative measures fail and you're left with a high dose of adrenalin and cortisol, it would be a good time to consume it with a good physical workout, perhaps to some high energy music. It would be a shame to waste all that energy on some pathogenic, neuron corroding stewing. It sounds like I'm stating the obvious, but I'm thinking of a person in the aforementioned discussion who said that he'd go to bed after getting riled up by a conflict.
It's certain that demanding respect, and living all the drama that this entails, is profitless. Perhaps it is possible to stay in charge and let everyone who wants their drama take it elsewhere so we can concentrate on doing worthwhile things; like changing that diet, getting a good exercise program going, finding people to share in this endeavor to form a mutual support and encouragement group, and getting a body that feels good to live in.

Why Does God Allow Evil

It’s often said that there are two ways to learn a lesson. One is by direct experience, the other by the observing of the experience of others, which would include second hand revelation. When God offered mankind a choice of directions represented by two trees, the tree of the knowledge of good and evil is the path that the human race took. This is nothing less than the school of hard knocks, or ‘we choose to learn by direct experience rather than believing instruction from God’. People ask: “why does God allow evil?” The simple answer is that if God interfered with the cause and effect relationship between actions and outcomes, the school may actually teach a lie. God in his wisdom alone knows when his intervention will not dilute the final evidence from which a final verdict can be drawn.

The lessons of cause and effect aren’t only for the ones caught up in the current of events. The river of events will provide a virtually infinite supply of data for education for all time to come. It’s written that, Isa 9:7 “Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David's throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this.” It’s also written, Rev 21:4 “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

I think that it’s reasonable to believe that all the experience of the lives of men and women throughout all ages are not only written down, but recorded in every detail Rev 20:12 “And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books.” A book was a means of recording that could be understood in ancient times, but we might take it metaphorically in the light of our technology. What we can do only serves to stir the imagination as to what God can and is doing since he is able to do infinitely more. God is able to record every moment of every life, Matt 12:36 “But I tell you that men will have to give account on the Day of Judgment for every careless word they have spoken”. Is there any reason to doubt that God is doing this?

The actions of his chosen ones are exposed for all to see, for the education of all that were to follow. Does this apply to all the other called ones? Such a thought may not be too comfortable; Lu 12:48 “To whom much is given, much is required.” Perhaps this is one of the requirements. If the kingdom of God expands indefinitely and there is no longer any evil, does God leave all future generations ignorant, or does the story of man (his-story) stand as an expose’ of what is truly evil to contrast and emphasize what is truly good? I think so. God doesn’t interfere very often in the lives of people, in the lessons being recorded for all those generations to come. If he did, how could he expect the correct conclusions to be drawn?

God gave one small nation harsh and unmerciful laws as I exhibited in Does The Law Teach Us How To Love  with a list of infractions in which the death penalty was required. I also showed that this was not truly representative of the nature of God. The Old Covenant law conflicts sharply with 1 John 4:8 “Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.”Legalistic cults seem to not notice the conflict, rationalize their way around it, ignore it, or are completely ignorant of it as is the case with the largest of legalistic cults which portrays God’s Character exclusively through a paradigm of OC intolerance. Here I’ll add another example of the intolerance of this law, Deut 13:12 “If you hear it said about one of the towns the LORD your God is giving you to live in 13 that wicked men have arisen among you and have led the people of their town astray, saying, "Let us go and worship other gods" (gods you have not known), 14 then you must inquire, probe and investigate it thoroughly. And if it is true and it has been proved that this detestable thing has been done among you, 15 you must certainly put to the sword all who live in that town. Destroy it completely, both its people and its livestock. 16 Gather all the plunder of the town into the middle of the public square and completely burn the town and all its plunder…”

What I see when I consider what God did by his ‘eye for an eye’ law and his command of extermination is a God who is conducting an experiment. Not for himself but for us and all who will follow. Jesus showed that this harsh tact was not the desire of God in his dealings with the women caught in adultery, John 8:7 “If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her; “and it is backed up by Gods proclamation that: Hosea 6:6 “For I desire mercy, not sacrifice, and acknowledgment of God rather than burnt offering.” Which Jesus repeated: Matt 12:7 “If you had known what these words mean, 'I desire mercy, not sacrifice,' you would not have condemned the innocent.” I believe that the experiment required the sacrifice of these people for the good of eternity because the proof of the need of God’s divine nature to change the human heart is illustrated in the example of Israel. The land was decontaminated by the harsh law, but God knew it wouldn’t work and the record makes the point clearly. This lesson will be available for all eternity.

Unfortunately the believers in harsh law, be they the more mild cherry pickers like Herbert Armstrong or more intense followers of other legalistic cults or religions, miss the point of the experiment. It doesn’t work; and since God was not ignorant of this fact, I have to conclude that he commanded this repugnant thing to expose this fact to the ignorant; but now the very planet is threatened by people who just don’t get it. The heart needs to be changed. The gospel of salvation through Jesus is condemned by legalists as a whole as some kind of (to quote Ron Weinland) syrupy rubbish intended to make people feel all warm and fuzzy inside. These people deny that the one word law of God is sufficient, that one word law being 'love’. They insist that there must be harsh rules and penalties, and detailed directives as to how ‘love’ is to be implemented.

Legalist cults in the world continue to make the point that the Old Testament eye for an eye type of law through its various mutant forms is not the way. God is not interfering to bring these poor people out of the grips of their deception. At least as far as the majority are concerned. I have much empathy for the enslaved people because I too was deceived, and it was a fight to be freed from its grip. These people are allowed to be a sacrifice, but the lessons of their misery will be available to promote wisdom in all generations of people throughout the universe for eternity. The suffering of the world’s people will not be in vain. Untold generations will be blessed to learn by observing the mistakes rather than by experiencing them. If this were not true, God’s promise that there will be no more tears would be false.

God does not make his own an exception from living with cause and effect results of the sinful acts of humanity. Jesus said, to his disciples, that when the bride groom is taken from them they would mourn. (Mark 2:18–22 Luke 5:33–39). I doubt that this refers only to the hours after his crucifixion. The Parable of the Wicked Tenants speaks of abuses against God's servants that he doesn't prevent during the time the Lord is away, it speaks of the time previous to, and including the time of Jesus’ coming, but I think if it applied to his prophets, the principle applies now, Matt 21 :35"The tenants seized his servants; they beat one, killed another, and stoned a third.” (Matt 21:33-45; Mark 12:1-12; Luke 20:9-19). The servants of God suffered unjustly; they are portrayed by Jesus as the victims of the wicked, not as reapers of what they had sowed themselves.

The Parable of the Talents (Matt 25:14-30) shows that God leaves his servants to do as they will without interference, for good or evil, while the Lord is off in that far country to receive his kingdom. Nothing makes the point better than the following parable, Luke 12:42-48 “The Lord said, "Who then is the faithful and wise steward, whom his lord will set over his household, to give them their portion of food at the right times? Blessed is that servant whom his lord will find doing so when he comes. Truly I tell you, that he will set him over all that he has. But if that servant says in his heart, ‘My lord delays his coming,’ and begins to beat the menservants and the maidservants, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken, then the lord of that servant will come in a day when he isn’t expecting him, and in an hour that he doesn’t know, and will cut him in two, and place his portion with the unfaithful.”

Which of Gods servants of scripture was always protected against abuses? They even struggled with uncertainty of truth as we can see in Job, Psalms etc? The bible is filled with the reality that God allows people to do what they will, to abuse and cause real damage. Why do people always expect that God should do otherwise? As the above parable exemplifies, justice comes when the King comes, and not before. Until that time, the lessons of man are gathered, and I’d say they are more precious then we can imagine, for they will produce the fruit of wisdom forever. It’s often quoted that the Lord can take all the lemons and he makes lemonade; the value he can produce from the grotesque ugliness of human sinfulness is the greatest example, Romans 8:28 “All things work together for the good of those that love the Lord and are called according to his purpose.”

God is not cruel; he didn’t spare his beloved son from the suffering and sacrifice. Those who accuse God of being a monster don’t see the big picture from God’s perspective. God is love, and his love is extended to those who won’t be born for another million years. Can you fathom the immensity of what God is forming; Why God allows evil is so that eternal good can exist.

God’s Perfect Solution

I don’t mean to be a one note song, but I get on the net and these guys just seem to be popping up everywhere. I was listening to this advocate of ‘The Law” He was preaching about how the people in the world hate God so much that there will only be a handful who will come to God without going through a horrific experience of horror, and of course this is because God is only calling a few, leaving the majority destined for the meat grinder; “They hate God’s laws particularly the Sabbath” he says, and goes on to talk about how the law keepers that are part of his group alone shall be saved. Sound familiar.

It’s interesting how much agreement some of these people have with the Muslims, and many of their arguments are similar. Some of them are in denial of the pre-existence of Jesus; both find it impossible to accept anything but a believer submitted in prostration to a fearsome God of wrath which conflicts sharply with a self sacrificing God who is love 1Jn 4:8, Jn3:16.

Neither can conceive of anything other than a law bound world of beaten to submission populations finally worn down by war and terror where only a handful find the full grace of God by their law keeping. Neither can grasp the concept that God creates even the nature of man, and he promises to change that nature so that man no longer requires intimidating threats and weighty sanctions to keep compressed and bottled up a capability for self seeking avarice.

I have an analogy from everyday life, so it’s a little crude, so I ask your pardon, but it’s one I see every day. I have dogs, and I can testify that no law will make my dogs stop barking at the neighbors. They know I don’t like them doing that and sometimes they’re trying to bark yet I’m staring at them so they try not to. It’s funny to see them convulsing with the bark that’s trying to escape while they struggle to keep their mouths shut. Dogs have some revolting predispositions, they sniff each other’s behinds and worse yet, I picked one up when it was younger and the stink had me gagging in seconds. The dog had excrement smeared all over her face; she had been having an evening snack. Now days I occasionally have to dispose of a dried artifact or two that they’ve carried into the house to chew on. God gave dogs their nature, as revolting as it sometimes is. Maybe there’s something to be learned from that.

The graphic example I provided, I felt necessary to include to create an image in our minds about how human nature must appear to God; and to point to the fact that dogs follow the nature of dogs, cats follow the nature of cats etc. It’s a very basic and simple reality.

Now the perfect solution to my dog problem would be to change their nature, but I can’t do this; but if I could, it would be the logical thing to do. It would save me a whole lot of problems. All my exasperated expressions of frustration and condemnation of their behavior is a pointless exercise in futility.

The same thing goes for human beings. The preacher can roll his eyes, condemning humanity with sighs of exasperation, rattling on about the shamefulness of human behavior, but it will change nothing, just as the Law of Commandments never really changed anything. Changing the nature of man is the logical solution. The history of Israel and the law demonstrate that man can’t change his own nature; so if it is to be change, God must do it. It would be illogical for God to expect something beyond human capability. To believe God expects such a thing would imply that God is unjust for expecting man to change his own nature, illogical for thinking he can or too weak to do it himself, none of which are true.

God gave man their nature in the first place, Rom 8:20 (YLT)”for to vanity was the creation made subject--not of its will, but because of Him who did subject it --in hope.”

The word translated ‘vanity’ has broader meaning then the word vanity alone (G3153 mataiotes mat-ah-yot'-ace from G3152; inutility; figuratively, transientness; morally, depravity:--vanity.)

I think that might describe human nature, but God subjected man to the nature of the flesh. God did it for a purpose, and I’d say that it is a case of aversion therapy. Those who repent and come to Jesus are those who are sick of the nature we possess, and reach out for a solution; one which he promises to provide. God will provide a new nature.

When we fully receive his promise, because of our experience, we will forever be thankful for God’s gift of a holy nature i.e. the divine nature. 2Pe1:3 His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 4Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.

So as to end on where I started; when I listen to advocates of the law preach; I’m hearing a lot of what distills down to: “those evil rotten disgusting human beings in this depraved, horrible, evil world of sin, selfishness, greed and debauchery; God is going to do something about it; he’s going to destroy them; and the few that remain will be terrified into obedience.” I think God has a better solution. It’s the logical solution. He’s going to simply create a new nature.

Understanding End time Prophecy (How the accepted scenario went off the track) Part 5 of 5

Revelation 12 (The woman is not the church)

I want to make it clear that the order of events written in the book of Revelation provides no reason to lump every tribulation (thlipsis) into a single ‘Great Tribulation’ that’s coming. Revelation 12 demonstrates the non-chronologic nature of the book as chapter 11 has already reached the apex of events in that (Rev 11:15) “the kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and his Christ” is the end of the story. Revelation 12:1 goes back in time and symbolically describes Judah as a woman who is pregnant, v5 with one who will rule all nations, clearly Jesus (It should be noted that Judah gives birth to Jesus). This gives one a solid event in time (the birth of Jesus), which is described after describing the seventh trumpet, a future event in chapter 11.

Then in Rev 12:3-4 Satan is described as a dragon who sweeps a third of the stars (angels) out of heaven, which might be really out of sequence as this may allude to his original rebellion sometime in the distant past; some however believe it to be a future event which still makes it out of sequence. In Rev12:5 we come back to the women (Judah) ready to give birth to the Lord and note that the serpent (Satan) is waiting to destroy him (the man child aka Jesus),but he is snatched up to heaven.

I was always taught that the woman is the church, but the church didn’t give birth to Jesus, Jesus brought the church into the world. In verse 6 we see the women having fled into the desert to a place prepared for her by God, where she might be taken care of for 1260 days, which is also known as a time a times and half a time. This period commences at some undefined point after the ascension of Jesus, but since it ends in 1948, all we have to do is count backwards in years. These 1260 days is frequently referred to as the tribulation period, but 3.5 years is too little to be a past event and the Jews can’t flee to the wilderness now because they are home, never to be displaced again. The Jews were, however, largely driven out of Judea by the forces of Islam for 1260 years.

The story of the women picks up again in v14 when she is metaphorically given the wings of an eagle to fly into that place in the desert (the world outside the holy land) where she’ll be taken care of for a time a times and half a time, or 1260 days .Perhaps for emphasis, this fact is repeated.

Judah is left in the desert and the Devil tries to destroy her but fails (history is witness that this happened), so he vents his rage on her offspring the ones having the testimony of Jesus; and, of course, this is clearly meaning churches. The churches were largely driven out of the epicenter and surrounding countries.

Chapter 12 makes the point that Revelation is not chronological so the order provides no reason to believe that the numberless multitude are assembled after the seventh seal, but most likely throughout the centuries as Rev 6:9 covering the fifth seal implies: “I saw under the alter the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God and the testimony they had maintained.” This exactly describes the fate of the Christians thrown to the lions in the arenas of first century Rome. This is unequivocally a great tribulation. Rev 6:10 goes on to say “They called out in a loud voice, "How long, Sovereign Lord, holy and true, until you judge the inhabitants of the earth and avenge our blood?" 11Then each of them was given a white robe, and they were told to wait a little longer, until the number of their fellow servants and brothers who were to be killed as they had been was completed. Again I’ll point out that this began in the first century and has continued to this day. There is nothing here to indicate that this is talking about some separate group of martyrs.

It is interesting that the Holy days God gave Israel recognized two harvests. The holy days and temple rituals were all prophetic in nature, so this tells me that there are two harvests of God’s saints; one from the Old Covenant (The small spring harvest), and one from the New Covenant, the much larger fall harvest. This corresponds nicely to the 144,000 and the numberless multitude fulfilling Isa 54:1 “More are the children of the desolate women than she who has a husband, says the Lord;” The desolate women being the gentiles, and she with a husband being Judah, (Jer31:32) “I was a husband to them,” husband: (H1166) to be master, hence(as denominative from H1167) to marry. Note that in Matt 27:52, that holy people were raised to life, they appeared to many people but disappeared. I don’t think that God had them die all over again. I’m convinced that there were 144,000 of them including the prophets and patriarchs of old,

Judah has returned to the holy land, so the time out side in the desert is now over. The Diaspora occurred over centuries, not 3.5 years; in fact the last 1260 years is only the last half of a time of increasing dispersion of the Jews and by a time characterized by the holy land being ruled by a religious/political system that was and is anti Jew and anti Christian. This religious/political system, which is Islam, completely denied Jewish access to the holy site, and did and is denying a large percentage of the world’s people access to the door to salvation which is Jesus the Christ.

Revelation 13

Revelation chapter 13 seems to cover some of the same time span as chapter 12, an overlay of sorts, going back in time to a representation of all the Empires that have controlled the holy land: Egypt, Assyria, Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece, Rome, and that which became the Ottoman Empire in its various forms. This seven headed beast (Rev 13:3) has the lion, bear and leopard characteristics of the pre Roman beasts of Daniel 7:4-6 lacking any characteristic of the 4th beast except for having ten horns which must arise partly out of the three ex Roman provinces. In Dan 7:8 only three of the 4th beast’s horns are subdued by the boast full little horn (Dan 7:24), so the ten horns in Rev 13:1 are not likely the same entities as the Dan 7 beast, just similar in number. To be clear, the 4th and the 5th beast, each have ten horns. Incidentally, another proof that the little horn’s portion of what was the Roman Empire, is not European (i.e. Germany, Italy) is that in the interlinear, both Dan 7:8 and 7:24 actually say three Eastern horns out of the ten are subdued. The point of reference from the bibles perspective is Jerusalem, so the three horns are in Muslim territory.

Some have suggested that the horns of Rev 13:1 are a breakdown of the modern nations that were part of the first three beasts of Daniel, and of course are ruled by Islamic governments; these may be: Syria, Turkey, Jordan, Lebanon, Sudan, Libya, Iran (Persia), Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Afghanistan. Egypt and Iraq may not be included, since this list is derived from Ezek 38, from the modernization of the biblical names of those who come against Israel when the Lord steps in to defend it.

Most of the modernizations of the biblical names are identified by Josephus; here’s a quote from THE COMING WAR IN THE MIDDLE EAST

“Persia includes modern Iran (97% Moslem), and possibly Iraq (96% Moslem) and Afghanistan (99% Moslem). The land called Put is essentially Libya (96% Moslem), and ancient Ethiopia includes today's Ethiopia (45% Moslem) and Sudan (70% Moslem). In Ezekiel's day Gomer was identified with Asia Minor (Turkey – 97% Moslem). Beth-togarmah (i. e., the house of the son of Gomer) would include eastern Turkey, the republic of Armenia and the Moslem republic of Azerbaijan. Other peoples may also be included in the attack that Ezek 38:7-8 say the above participate in. Since the Bible says, "you will go up . . . you and all your troops, and many peoples with you (v. 9). What a great confederacy of attackers this will be!”

There is no absolute proof that this list is totally correct, but the Ezek 38 list and this statement in Zech 12 make it quite probable, and make it clear that those who attack Israel are not European: Zech12:2 “I am going to make Jerusalem a cup that sends all the surrounding peoples reeling. Judah will be besieged as well as Jerusalem. V3 On that day (general time period), when all the nations of the earth (H776 erets earth in whole or in particular, land, in the bible the target metaphor applies) are gathered against her, I will make Jerusalem an immovable rock for all the nations. All who try to move it will injure themselves.” Does this mean remove it? The Muslims have tried a number of times, and ended up injuring themselves.

The nations that surround Israel make up the seven headed beast. To be clear, I’ll point out again that when the bible says land, it’s virtually always referring to the holy land and there after surrounding countries. These nations who were agents of punnishment will be the ones who attack Israel: Obadiah 1:15 “For the day of Jehovah is near on all the nations; as you have done (to the Jewish people), it shall be done to you. Your reward shall return upon your head.” Obadiah 1:16 For as you have drunk upon My holy mountain (who did this?), so all the nations shall drink forever. Yes, they shall drink, and they shall swallow, and they shall be as though they had not been. V17 But upon Mount Zion shall be those who escaped; and it shall be holy. And the house of Jacob shall possess their own possessions. V 1:18 And the house of Jacob shall be a fire, and the house of Joseph a flame. And the house of Esau shall be for stubble. And they shall kindle in them and burn them up. And no survivor shall be to the house of Esau; for Jehovah has spoken it.”

The people who drove the Jews from their land will again come to fight: Joel 3:2 “I will gather all nations and bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat. There I will enter into judgment against them concerning my inheritance, my people Israel, for they scattered my people among the nations and divided up my land.” The Palestinian Israeli conflict is the result of ownership of the land being usurped by the surrounding nations.

The Saudis and other Arabs claim to be descended from Ishmael which Gen 37:25-28 call Midianites and are recorded in scripture to have been a military power, and nomadic as the story of Joseph being sold into slavery points out. The line of Esah is recorded to have mixed with Ishmael, Gen 28:9 “Then went Esau unto Ishmael, and took unto the wives which he had Mahalath the daughter of Ishmael Abraham's son, the sister of Nebajoth, to be his wife.” If some of the Arabs are of Ishmael, then Oba 1:18 applies to them. I’ve previously alluded to this, but I think it’s time to state it as a point.

· This will be point six: it is not Europe that is prophesied to attacks Jerusalem before Jesus returns.

The beasts are a regional political power over a population, so in Rev 13:3 when one of the heads receives what appears to be a fatal wound, this is not a single personality, but the political entity the beast represents. The last entity to control the holy land was the Ottoman Empire, discounting the British who were a transitional authority with no designs on annexation.

The Ottoman Empire was a form of the last beast, and they, like pharaoh, were forced to let his people go. The unity of the Ottoman Empire was destroyed after WW1, which may account for the fatal wound, but the various parts that made up the empire don’t need a single national government. The people of the land (Middle East) will follow the political and religious directives of the only thing that unites them as a single unit: Islam; they belong to the Ummah which is the Muslim community that recognizes no borders, but sees all Muslims as being rightfully under the single representative of Allah. Their divisions and sects would disappear if a leader should be recognized as this single representative.

The Shiite Muslims are currently waiting for their counterfeit for Messiah, the one they call the perfect human being aka. The ‘twelfth imam’, who is to appear and establish a worldwide khilafah. The religious sect that controls Iran believes that the destruction of Israel in an apocalyptic event, will make this happen; and if they or their entire population dies, they will become glorified martyrs in heaven. All this easily fits in with what Rev V13:3-4 describes: “the whole world (G1093 ge:land, from the bible perspective, the Middle East) was astonished and followed the beast.” As they see it, with Allah on their side, no one can make war against them, and they will be as they were when Mohammed’s armies were an unstoppable juggernaut.

The beasts, a recap and additional observations

The Statue and beasts in Daniel are the agents of the punishment of Israel starting with Babylon, and this over the duration of seven days of years where every day represents a year for a total of 2520 days as can be seen by the equation 605 + 1948 -33= 2520 (33 being the lifetime of Jesus). The Beasts remain intact until Israel's punishment period is over after which time the last one receives a fatal wound. This last beast, described in both Daniel and Revelation is different in that it can be an empire or a coalition; the parts don’t stick together as the clay does not stick to the iron. Dan 2:41-43 makes this reference in the original language about the iron being mixed with the clay: “and they (the people being represented) shall be mixed with the seed of men.” A contrast is draw between ‘they’ and the ‘seed of men’; they are not the same entities perhaps predicting the immigration of people from the territorial and ethnic confines of the nation or nations comprising this final beast, thus taking their counterfeit religion with them to all the world.

There may be various nations making up the last beast, primarily from the ethnic descent, and historic territory of Daniel 11’s King of the North and King of the south, but they are held together by a common creed and mission, to destroy Judah.

In Rev 12:14 the women (Judah) is taken into the desert to be taken care of for 1260 years, which is the last half of her punishment time. In chapter 13:5 we see the final beast that inflicts that punishment given authority to blaspheme God and v7 given authority to make war against the saints and to conquer them. Both the Jews and Christians are called saints; the Jewish people are referred as such in Dan 8:12 in its discussion of this same last beast. This authority is given for the exact same time linking Rev 13:5, Rev 12:14 and Dan 7:25 together as a common point in time. The idea that Satan would wait until the last few years to create a counter religion to fight against the gospel message Jesus left to his followers is not believable. A counter religion would also be called an anti Christian religion, or shall we just say Antichrist. Rev 5:3 predicts that this beast wars against the saints, and prevails. This has indeed happened as the forces of Islam did conquer and virtually drove the Christian church out of the land of its birth.

The events in Revelation are not chronological as Rev13:5 (the beast was given authority) precedes verse 4, which is clearly after receiving power and a time when the beast is worshipped as a military juggernaut, which the Muslim armies were for centuries until something happened described in verse 3 as one of the heads receiving what seems to be a fatal wound (although the wound may have taken a century or more to be inflicted). Illustrating this is the fact that no greater enemy existed for the West then those Muslim forces until the rise of the communist Soviet Union; and no more prevalent exhortation was heard in European churches for all those centuries then the beseeching of God to “save us from the armies of Islam.” The relatively short time the tables have been turned has resulted in a largely bitter population that vilifies the West as a personification of Satan, but the scale is far from balanced, that would also take many centuries.

This doesn’t excuse exploitation or colonialism, but the hate filled accusations against the West smacks of the pot calling the kettle black. No, the scales are far from balanced, but unlike in Islam, a Christian has no right to seek vengeance: Rom 12:19, Heb 10:30 “vengeance is mine says the Lord, I will repay;” so balancing scales is none of our concern that will be Jesus’ prerogative.

After many centuries of having the authority and prevailing against the saints, internal corruption and WW1 drained the life out of the Muslim rulers, then in the form of the Ottoman Empire. The weakened condition of the Muslim Ummah (during the time of the apparent fatal wound) has allowed God’s sure prediction of the return of his chosen people to the holy land as a fulfillment of his purposes and a sign to all who might believe his word is truth. The window of opportunity was small however, and no sooner had the fledgling Jewish state been established when the parts of the wounded beast began to congeal into a coalition to destroy their former vassal.

All but one of the heads of the beast in Rev 13 are past empires, at this point in the narration, only one head is active, and it seems to be all but dead, but it revives; verse 11 refers to another beast, but Daniel makes it clear that the fifth beast is the last one, or the seventh when including the two empires preceding Babylon, Egypt and Assyria, that were of the same geography, but were tools of punishment for Israel prior to the final seven day sentence (2520 yrs), and before the prophetic statue of Daniel.

By the pattern thus far established, a ‘beast’ is a people. This Beast in Rev13:11 is not one of the beasts represented in the statue in Daniel 2, or the beasts of Daniel 7, it doesn’t have the identifying feature of controlling the land Aretz Israel. It comes on the scene after Israel's punishment is over. It could be composed of a past fragment of a former beast having broken off the larger entity. Iran was part of the Medo-Persian Empire, but it was not the King of the North (Seleucid Empire), which is the continuing manifestation of the Beast as Dan 11 points out. Persia was ruled by the Seleucid Empire but breaking free formed its own empire in 248 BC which remained until 641 AD when the Muslims came.

This beast in Rev 13:11 appears holy like a lamb, but speaks like a dragon. This fragment of the former beast never annexed the holy land. Annexing Judah is a required characteristic of the sections of the statue and the beasts of Daniel. It was the Medo-Persian Empire that once controlled Judah of which the Persia (Iran) of today is only an off shoot. So far, I think Iran qualifies for the Rev 13:11 roll.

Rev13:12 states that the beast exercises the same authority of the previous beast, and makes the people of the earth (the land i.e. Middle Eastern nations) worship that previous beast. This nation (beast) doesn’t control Judah, but perhaps lends its power to the cause and purpose of the one who was the last to do so. From the way things are shaping up, Iran would fulfill this role. It was part of or occupied by the earlier beasts but was not the King of the North or South. Its president drips words of love for mankind while condemning Israel, and calling for its annihilation, conforming to the description: Rev 13:11“appears like a lamb, but speaks like a dragon.” Iran has become the champion of Islam’s mission of destroying the people of God (the Jews), and the gospel of Jesus. Iran is making treaties with its Muslim neighbors to stand together militarily if any one of them is attacked, particularly by Israel. Iran is the champion of Muslim unity and points to the glorious past, in effect promoting a worship of the former Ummah’s glory i.e. worship of the former beast.

The Muslims lost their political cohesion after the Ottoman Empire disintegrated, which occurred largely during the 19th century up to WW1.The decline of Islamic national prestige has left a population whose pride is for what is past more than for what is present. The more liberal Ottoman Empire that relaxed Jewish oppression is an object of pride, but of course not the larger object of nostalgia, that is reserved for the earlier golden age of Islamic society where sharia (Islamic) law prevailed.

Having lost the glory of the past, Islamic fundamentalist revival has swept the Muslim nations, and has been laying the foundations of the fulfillment of Ezek 38-39 (Which names the attackers of Judah that when modernized are primarily the Muslim nations surrounding Israel)and Zech 12 (Jesus comes and fights for Israel personally when the surrounding nations attack). Here is an excerpt from The Rise and Decline of the Ummah (Imam Zaid Shakir  2004):

“In order to elaborate this general view, we will first present a chronological sketch of the rise and decline of the Muslim Ummah. In fact, an understanding of our present situation demands that the past glory and grandeur of the Muslim Ummah should he realized by young Muslims. They should know that there was a time when the armies of the Arabs starting from Gibraltar had reached north-east into the heart of France. At another time the Turkish armies, after trampling all of Eastern Europe, were knocking at the gates of Vienna. Perhaps in this way we can recreate in the hearts of our young men a desire to revive the past majesty and glory of the Muslim civilization.”

There you have it from a Muslim. It’s interesting how bible prophecy can stray when one forgets that the perspective of the bible is Jerusalem centered; everyone needs to keep their eyes on the land that the bible concerns itself with; the Middle East. If we’re focused on Europe, we might miss the fulfillment of bible prophecy occurring right before our eyes. We know where the target is, that’s where our attention needs to be. I don’t see anything that really hasn’t been fulfilled in between where we are now and the coming of Jesus to fight for Israel.

Luke21:28 “When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.”

Understanding End time Prophecy (How the accepted scenario went off the track) Part 4 of 5

The great tribulation is coming?

“It will be 3.5 years of hell on earth” says the fire breathing evangelists and virtually all proponents of biblical prophecy, but I disagree, I say it’s been here. I’ll not imply that the last half of Jesus seven year ministry, to confirm the covenant, will be gentle since the first part was that of the lamb and the second is that of the lion, but this is not the tribulation that Jesus was talking about in Matt 24. I’ll start my argument with the words of Jesus.

The events of Matt 24, Mark 13 and Luke 21 are usually crammed forward into the last 7 years before the Lords coming; half of which is supposed to be relatively peaceful under the rulership of the Antichrist; The remaining 3.5 years are supposed to be the fulfillment of all things labeled ‘tribulation’.

The Lords words contained here are in answer to two questions. The disciples had been drawing Jesus attention to the magnificent buildings of the temple and Jesus told them they would all be destroyed, so they asked him (question 1) when (would the temple be destroyed) and also (2) what would be the signs of his return. Jesus does a quick rundown of what to expect from their current time until his return, which is focusing on question two between Matt v4 and 14. He speaks of the wars that must transpire over time as the phrase in v6 indicates: “such things must happen, but the end is not yet.” He predicted famines and earthquakes and calls them beginnings of birth pangs. I want to emphasize that what Jesus spoke of in Matt 24 covered a span of time between the destruction of Jerusalem and the temple to the time of his return, not just the few years prior to his return.

Now either Jesus simply didn’t answer the first question about the destruction of the temple, or he did in Matt 24:15-21. Writers on this subject seem to completely ignore the question about the temple as if the subject is signs of Jesus return only; verse16 says the subject is ‘those in Judea’, and who else besides the Jews would need to pray that their fleeing should not be on the Sabbath. Verse 24:21(KJV) “for then there shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.”

The subject here is what happens in Judea, and the contemporary of this account in Luke21:20-24 makes it clear that this is speaking of Jerusalem’s destruction (including the temple), and the time of the punishment of the Jews predicted often by the prophets in fulfillment of Leviticus 26 and Deuteronomy 28:15 through 31:17; (Luke 21:21) “Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, let those in the city get out, and let those in the country not enter the city. V22 For this is the time of punishment in fulfillment of all that has been written” (Remember that in this perspective, this is the last half of 2,520 years, a 1,260 year period of final fulfillment, the great tribulation of the Jewish people). “V23 How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers! There will be great distress in the land and wrath against this people(the Jews). V24They will fall by the sword and will be taken as prisoners to all the nations (the Diaspora). Jerusalem will be trampled on by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled” (1260 years in which no Jew, without converting to Islam, could set foot on the holy site, the epicenter; this happened between 688 and 1948.)

From the starting point of the destruction of Jerusalem (which wasn’t complete until 135 AD) until the time of the coming of the Lord (which is described in Zech 14 as the time he comes to defend Jerusalem), is covered in these remaining verses speaking of that time: Lu21:25 “there will be signs in the sun, moon and stars. On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea.V26 Men will faint from terror, apprehensive of what is coming on the world, for the heavenly bodies will be shaken. V27 At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.”

This tribulation spoken of here in Matt24, Mark13 and Luke 21 starts with Jerusalem’s destruction by the Romans, and if you’ve ever read Josephus, there is no question that this event was the worst event ever to come to the city, but God promises that after the Jewish people are gathered again to the holy land and the destruction of Jerusalem is again imminent, he will defend it himself. Zech14:2 says the city will be invaded again, but not be destroyed: V2 “I will gather all the nations to Jerusalem to fight against it; the city will be captured, the houses ransacked, and the women raped. Half of the city will go into exile, but the rest of the people will not be taken from the city.” This will be a horrific time for Israel but v3 says the Lord will go out and fight against the nations that attack her.

The time of its total destruction however was a onetime event (though you can say it was a multi decade event) as shown by Ezek5:8 “Therefore this is what the Sovereign LORD says: I myself am against you, Jerusalem, and I will inflict punishment on you in the sight of the nations. Ezek 5:9 Because of all your detestable idols, I will do to you what I have never done before and will never do again.” The Lord also makes such statements in Isa 51:22-23”from the goblet of my wrath you will never drink again”. To whom is this statement addressed? Isa 51:17 says he’s talking to Jerusalem.

Here are some details of God’s wrath.

Ezek 5:10 “Therefore in your midst fathers will eat their children, and children will eat their fathers. I will inflict punishment on you and will scatter all your survivors to the winds.

V11 Therefore as surely as I live, declares the Sovereign LORD, because you have defiled my sanctuary with all your vile images and detestable practices, I myself will withdraw my favor; I will not look on you with pity or spare you.

V12 A third of your people will die of the plague or perish by famine inside you; a third will fall by the sword outside your walls; and a third I will scatter to the winds and pursue with drawn sword.

V13 Then my anger will cease and my wrath against them will subside, and I will be avenged. And when I have spent my wrath upon them, they will know that I the LORD have spoken in my zeal.

V15 I will make you a ruin and a reproach among the nations around you, in the sight of all who pass by.”

In 70 AD the Romans trapped the Jews within Jerusalem until they starved to death (Josephus wars of the Jews 5.12.3): “Then did the famine widen its progress, and devour the people by whole houses and families; the upper rooms were full of women and children that were dying by famine; and the lanes of the city were full of the dead bodies of the aged; the children also and the young men wandering like shadows, all swelled with the famine, and fell down dead wherever their misery seized them.”

In 5.11.1 Josephus notes that at least 500 Jewish rebels were caught, whipped and crucified per day during the siege of Jerusalem to a total of an estimated 10,000 persons, and as many as 200,000 Jews were crucified throughout Palestine. This and the direct slaughter of the people and destruction of the city are unprecedented. Since that time the list of atrocities the Jewish people have suffered at the hand of the populations of the countries in which they were driven seems endless. The Jews have suffered this great tribulation for many hundreds of years, and it was certainly capped off by the Nazi inflicted holocaust which so literally reflects the imagery of Ezekiel’s prophecy in (Ezek 5) as he lay on the temple steps burning the hair representing what would happen to Jerusalem’s people. God adds, in Ezek 5:4 that this fire would spread to the whole house of Israel. What a graphic and horrible fulfillment in Hitler’s final solution.

Temple to be rebuilt

Since the subject of the temple has been touched on again, I’m reminded that I failed to mention that the Temple spoken of in Ezekiel chapters 40-47 is supposed to be rebuilt by the Jews before Jesus can return according to some pastors such as one I listened to quite recently.

Just looking at some of the description of this temple and it’s clear that the Jews don’t build this temple without some heavenly assistance: Ezek 47:1 “The man brought me back to the entrance of the temple, and I saw water coming out from under the threshold of the temple toward the east (for the temple faced east). The water was coming down from under the south side of the temple, south of the altar. 2 He then brought me out through the north gate and led me around the outside to the outer gate facing east, and the water was flowing from the south side;” Skipping to verse 5 “He measured off another thousand, but now it was a river that I could not cross, because the water had risen and was deep enough to swim in—a river that no one could cross;” Skipping again to verse 12 “Fruit trees of all kinds will grow on both banks of the river. Their leaves will not wither, nor will their fruit fail. Every month they will bear, because the water from the sanctuary flows to them. Their fruit will serve for food and their leaves for healing." This is clearly after Jesus’ return.

People who think that the temple needs to be rebuilt before Jesus comes may have a surprise waiting for them. I am of the opinion that the temple the LORD will return to is the temple that is his church, and I thought this long before a would-be prophet made the same statement.

The temple will be needed because the law will be kept: Zech 14:16 “Then the survivors from all the nations that have attacked Jerusalem will go up year after year to worship the King, the LORD Almighty, and to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles.” Those who attack Jerusalem, i.e. the rebellious practitioners of iniquity will be required to keep the law that was required of another group of the same definition: the children of Israel; Deut 31:26 "Take this Book of the Law and place it beside the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God. There it will remain as a witness against you (Israel). 27 For I know how rebellious and stiff-necked you are.” Gal 3:19 “What, then, was the purpose of the law? It was added because of transgressions” 1Tim 1:9 We also know that law is made not for the righteous but for lawbreakers and rebels, the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious; for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers.

People will either keep the Old Covenant law or the New Covenant Law, they will be controlled by the spirit of God, or by an external law; there will be no vacuum in law. God will have use for a temple after he (Jesus) comes, not before.

The trouble of the disciples

Jesus spoke of the trouble the Jews would suffer, but in covering the time between the destruction of the temple until his return he certainly didn’t forget his own disciples tribulation, as in Matt 24:9 “Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and be put to death.”

The word translated ‘tribulation’ in the New Testament is (G2347 Thlipsis), and the apostle Paul told the followers of Jesus that they would certainly have their share. And he said nothing about this being held off until the last few years before Jesus return. Here are some examples, from the KJV, of this word, and some variations, translated as tribulation, trouble or affliction, depending on the version.

  • Rom 5:3 “but we glory in tribulation (thlipsis) also knowing that tribulation worketh patience.”
  • 1 Thes 3:4 “For verily, when we were with you, we told you before that we should suffer tribulation (thlibo); even as it came to pass.”
  • 2 Cor 7:4 “Great is my boldness of speech toward you, great is my glorying of you: I am filled with comfort, I am exceeding joyful in all our tribulation (thlipsis).”
  • John 16:33 “These things I have spoken unto you that in me you might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation (thlipsin): but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”
  • Rev 1:9 “I John who also am your brother and companion in tribulation (thlipsis) and in the kingdom….”
  •  Rev 2:9 “I know thy works and tribulations (thlipsin) and poverty……”
  •  Rev 2:10 “Fear none of the things which thou shalt suffer: behold the devil shall cast some of you into prison that ye may be tried and ye shall have tribulation (thlipsis) ten days: be you faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life”. (Note the reference to ‘ten days’ and that it clearly isn’t ten 24 hour days as we know from history.)
  • Rev 2:22 “Behold I will cast her (Jezebel) into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation (thlipsis) except they repent of their deeds.”

This last example was written to the church at Thyatira number 4 on the list; and Rev 2:9 and 10 were written to the church at Smyrna which is number 2 on the list of seven churches. If one prescribes to the (however unsupportable) theory of church eras, the time frame of these thlipsis were long before now, and it’s clear that the Lord was talking to people during their own time, however applicable some of it was and is to those coming later.

With all the references to the fact that the people of those times, and later, would suffer tribulation; why do people jump to the conclusion that the numberless multitude that comes out of tribulation, come out of that tribulation (The wrath of God is also a tribulation) that takes place in the last three and a half years before Jesus comes? (Rev 7:9) “After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;”The following verse identifies who these people are, and nothing is said about a time frame for the trouble they came out of; it’s simply a presumption that the word ‘tribulation’ (thlipsis) refers to that time directly preceding Christ’s return: Rev7:13 “And one of the elders answered, saying unto me, What are these which are arrayed in white robes? and whence came they? Rev7:14 And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation (thlipsis), and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.” This has been going on for nearly two thousand years.

The conclusion to this matter seems to be that the tribulation referred to in the bible is usually what the chosen people, believers and people in general during the last two millennia, have and do live through, not punishment on the world during the last plagues of Revelation. The wrath of God and the tribulation should not be mixed up.

· This will be point four: the tribulation has been here since the first churches were planted; also, the wrath of God and the tribulation are two separate issues, but are usually run together as if they were synonymous.

The Four Horsemen and the Martyrs

I have heard preachers trying to treat Revelation like a linear story. The fact is, the book of Revelation jumps around in time, and there is often nothing to indicate an exact time frame; it’s simply presumptuous to believe that the events of Revelation 7 (sealing of the 144,000) follow those of revelation 6 (the opening of the seals), or that the thing contained in the first 5 seals of Rev 6 are not dispersed throughout the last two millennia before the second coming of Christ. There is nothing to justify pushing the seals foreword to the few years preceding Jesus’ return.

Rev 12 demonstrates that the book is not chronological, but before I get to that I’d like to look at a few verses that might indicate that the end days are the last two 1000 year days as Peter describes: (2Peter 3:8) “But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.” If the end days have been here since the Lord was crucified, then so have the four horsemen’s plagues (the first 4 seals).

In the following, Peter is responding to bystanders misunderstanding a manifestation of the Holy Spirit to be drunkenness: (Act 2:15) “These men are not drunk, as you suppose. It's only nine in the morning! V16 No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: V17 ”In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams.” Here Peter speaks of their present time as ‘the last days’.

The apostle Paul made a similar allusion: Heb 9:26 “Then Christ would have had to suffer many times since the creation of the world. But now he has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of himself.” Paul calls the time of Jesus’ crucifixion as included in the ‘end of the ages’.

John also seemed to be of the same opinion : 1John 2:18 “ Dear children, this is the last hour; and as you have heard that the antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come. This is how we know it is the last hour.” The apostles may not have realized the enormous amount of time that was between their present time and the coming of Jesus, but that doesn’t make them wrong. Here I’ll repeat, Jesus defined a start point and an end point for the last days in Matt 24 starting with the destruction of the temple until his return.

I don’t see any reason to believe that the seals of Revelation 6 were not opened long ago save the seventh. The fifth seal (Rev 6:9-11) implies a long passage of time when in answer to the question: “how long oh lord until our blood is avenged?” they were told to: “wait a little longer, until the number of their fellow servants who were to be killed had been completed.” Servants of the Lord started dying at the time of Stephen as recorded in Acts 7:54-58 and haven’t stopped since. People have been dying for the Lord for the last two 1000 year days, and I think these people fit the description: Rev 7:14"These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.”

The wars, famine, pestilence and disease the human race has suffered over the last 2000 years are so horrible that it defies comprehension; and, of course, we can’t leave out religious war. The four horsemen of Rev 6 have indeed been riding. Everyone knows that a third or more of Europe fell to the Black Death during the middle ages; India and China have regularly lost large percentages of their population; in 1344-45 a famine was so extreme that royalty were among those starving, this was repeated in 1629, 1685-88 and1789; in 1887-79 shaanxi province in China suffered a famine which was responsible for the loss of a third of it’s population, and again in 1897-1910 out of a population of 8.5 million, over 2 million more died (The great warming Brian Fagan); some 60 million died in World War 2; 10 to 20 million died of the Spanish flu pandemic of 1918-1919, and these are just the more noted cases.

The accumulated tribulation (thlipsis) of the world over twenty centuries could barely be compared to whatever one could condense into 3.5 years in terms of human suffering. The slow attrition bore through a lifetime of helplessness and despair, living under the boots of tyrants, as has been a common condition of the average citizen of the world, is a horror worthy of the name “Great Tribulation.” I should like to again point out that the tribulation that’s come on the believers, along with the general population, and the wrath of God on those who attack Judah are not the same subject.

· Point five will be The last two millenniums have been the last days
